POP MUSIC FESTIVALS IN MARCH

March is set to become the month of pop music festivals after a number of festivals are being organised in the coming few weeks. Pop music festivals in 2011 face the same challenge as always: branding new dishes from the communal stew of touring bands and soloists like Michael Buble. But through social media the tastemaking classes keep expanding, along with every alternative subculture; the festivals, in turn, keep swelling and diversifying, despite the economy.

Bookies expect the boyband to head straight to number one in the charts after an impressive live performance of their new single, The Flood, on The X Factor results show last night.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN

A song released by the Royal British Legion has broken into the Top 20 singles charts in the UK. And it's just that: two minutes of silence. Not sure it'll be worth buying V Festival Tickets for!

"Rather than a song, we felt the UK public would recognize the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance," Chris Simpkins, director general of the Royal British Legion told the Guardian.

COYLE SUFFERS DISAPPOINTMENT

Nadine Coyle’s hopes of competing with Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Cole with a successful solo career have been shattered, after failing to make it into the top 40.

Coyle’s debut solo album Insatiable only made it onto the charts at number 47, while Cheryl Cole’s Messy Little Raindrops fell to number three after being pushed out of the top spot by Susan Boyle. SuBo’s album The Gift shot to number one, followed by Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits album.

SWIFT TOPS BILLBOARD CHART
